These images are of a cyanotype of water on silk made for Blue Alchemy, the artist’s ongoing cyanotype project using water sourced from Vermont’s Lake Champlain watershed and beyond. The artist made this piece at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ on January 11, 2026, a connecting piece to the larger watershed of the Hudson River and the Atlantic Ocean.
All of the elements present — sun, water, sand, wind — create a variety of colors during exposure, but these colors are rarely if ever permanent. Such is the way of the interior landscape, that of the mind. As Barry Lopez wrote in Horizon, “This at any rate is the belief that guides me here, a belief that the physical land — a broadly encompassing term– is sentient and responsive, as informed by its own memory as it is by the weather, and offering within the obvious, the tenuous.”
